Which Looks Best-Clear Braces, Clear Aligners or Inside Braces?

Jun 16, 2019

Many people are not keen on the look of traditional metal braces. There are many options for achieving a more inconspicuous look. 3 options are-

  • Clear braces
  • Clear aligners
  • Inside braces

You should not only consider the appearance of the treatment but also the benefits and limitations.

How Do They Look?

Which option looks best, depends on personal preference.

Clear Braces

These are made from tooth-colored porcelain and a white archwire which are much less visible from a distance.

Clear Aligners

It is also known as Invisalign, the plastic trays which are virtually impossible to detect from a distance. Like a clear Mouthguard, the trays are noticeable and the teeth are easily visible beneath the tray.

Aligners can be removed easily while eating or drinking.

Inside Braces

Lingual braces are worn on the inside of teeth that leave the outside of the teeth clear. The brackets are custom-made as per the shape of each tooth.

A person standing close to the patient may notice the lingual braces but can’t be detected from a distance. They are ideal for anyone that needs to wear braces rather than aligners.

Suitability of Orthodontic Treatments

Everyone does not have the freedom of choosing which option they prefer the look of the most. Invisalign isn’t suitable for all orthodontic cases. It works well for mild to moderately crowded teeth.

You need to wear the trays for 22-23 hours per day. It can be put out while eating, brushing, and flossing your teeth.

Braces have biomechanical benefits that Invisalign doesn’t provide. Brackets and wires can fix rotations, make teeth longer and close large gaps between teeth.

Budget May Help You Decide

The cost of every orthodontic treatment is not the same. The lingual braces and the custom fit brackets are not a very cheap option. You need to visit the dentist more often with lingual braces than having standard braces or Invisalign.

There are many options if you are conscious about how your teeth will look while you are having orthodontic treatment.
